SafetyNET is a registered charity providing empowerment technologies, skills training and support to women, young people and children who are survivors of domestic violence.

SafetyNET provides opportunities to train in the digital media domain and to use these skills to seek paid employment, while also documenting the many success stories of women who have broken free of cycles of violence and abuse, to embrace positive futures for themselves, their children and communities.

SMARTlab is a Digital Media Institute producing new technology tools to empower disadvantaged communities worldwide, including women, young people at risk, and people with disabilities. One of the main research groups at SMARTlab UK focusses on the digital fashion industry and the opportunities it provides for creation of new customisable fashion paradigms and patterns for people with disabilities.

SafetyNET & SMARTlab are joining forces, coming to Ireland, and offering a free workshop on SMARTfashion at the Science Gallery. Come along and learn about SMARTfashion for safety and creative expression!

Afternoon Friday 13th June – lecture from 4pm – 5pm followed by workshop from 5pm – 6pm

& Dr Rachel Armstrong, medical expert on science/art challenges and opportunities With a presentation on SmartLife Smartgarments: clothing with embedded sensors for health, safety and creativity

& Online contribution by Dr Daria Dorosh, Sr Research Fellow in Fashion Futures with SMARTlab UK & world renowned designer/artist from the New York Fashion Institute of Technology

Featuring Design concepts by BODKIN DESIGNS of Ireland: Tara and Kathy Mooney will introduce their fashion lines, including digitally enhanced collars and cuffs that can be customised by participants to hide safety sensors.

Saturday 14th June – Workshop from 12.30pm – 4.30pm

Sunday 15th June – If participants need to complete their work, workshop possibility from 12.30pm – 4.30pm
