NeoRio 2013: The Ice Cream Olympics – Intimate Ecologies: Tastes of the Monument
This year’s NeoRio is a 3 month artist’s residency – the first in the newly designated Rio Grande Del Norte Monument and is a series of workshops, educational activities and an exhibition, raising the profile of the final event The Ice Cream Olympics.
The Ice Cream Olympics is an inclusive accessible field day with the sole aim of churning ice cream from local ingredients and to create local flavours playfully exploring bio-cultural diversity one scoop at a time.
Now in its fifth year, NeoRio is an annual platform for new featured artists and projects, which culminate in BLM Public Lands Day Event at Wild Rivers in the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument. Hosted by the BLM Taos Field Office and OCHO Art Space in Questa, NeoRio is organized by LEAP (Land, Experience and Art of Place, a program of Localogy).
According to LEAP founder, Claire Coté, “NeoRio is about creating opportunities for innovative contemporary artists to interface with and celebrate our communities, rivers and wild lands. This year we have something really exciting to celebrate, the new Rio Grande del Norte National Monument and TASTY!’s residency and “The Ice Cream Olympics” skilfully presents us with fun and delicious ways to engage with its ecology while at the same time touching on big issues.”
